A vehicle (Latin: vehiculum) is a mechanical means of conveyance, a carriage or transport. Most often they are manufactured (e.g. bicycles, cars, motorcycles, trains, ships, boats, and aircraft), although some other means of transport which are not made by humans also may be called vehicles; examples include icebergs and floating tree trunks.

Vehicles may be propelled or pulled by animals including humans, for instance, a chariot, a stagecoach, a mule-drawn barge, an ox-cart or rickshaw. However, animals on their own, though used as a means of transport, are not called vehicles, but rather beasts of burden or draft animals. This distinction includes humans carrying another human, for example a child or a disabled person. Means of transport without a vehicle or animal would include walking, running, crawling, or swimming.

Vehicles that do not travel on land often are called craft, such as watercraft, sailcraft, aircraft, hovercraft, and spacecraft

Land vehicles are classified broadly by what is used to apply steering and drive forces against the ground: wheeled, tracked, railed, or skied.

What is a vehicle inspection? Someone said that if you fail smog your required to get a vehicle inspection?
Q. What does this mean and could it be valid ? "vehicle inspection" ?

A. What is your state of residence and its laws regarding registration and vehicle inspections? This could be important because of differences in laws. Wisconsin has South East counties operating under pollution elevated rules that require emissions tests at time of sale and as officer orders- the test is simple tail pipe check and visual check of factory equipment has not been removed. If the vehicle doesn't pass- the plate and registration process is held until vehicle passes but state specific inspection is not required- just pass emissions test soon. Iowa will have some vehicles inspected by state inspector and will run VIN, check exhaust and required equipment as well as emissions- vehicle failing a couple times will not be allowed on… [cont.]

What's the best rental vehicle for a Utah National Parks trip?
Q. I need to rent a vehicle (out of Vegas) for a 9 day road trip through the national parks of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. I'll be hiking and backpacking so I'll have gear that will need to be stored when on short/day hikes. Since I've never been out there, I don't know how much off-roading time I'll actually be doing or what the conditions will be later this month. Any suggestions for vehicle and tips for the trip would be wonderful!

What exactly happens to your vehicle when the police ends up seizing your vehicle?
Q. What exactly happens to your vehicle when the police ends up seizing your vehicle? Is it possible you'll be able to get your vehicle back or does the police get to keep your vehicle regardless if it was used in a commission of a felony or misdemeanor crime.

A. Terminology may vary by state, but in my area we have 'storage' tows and 'impound' tows. Typically, vehicles that are towed after an accident or as the result of an arrest (such as drunk driving) where the vehicle is not considered 'evidence' result in 'storage' tows. This category can also include tows for things like blocking a fire lane, blocking a driveway, and blocking the roadway. In many departments, the procedure to recover a vehicle that has been 'stored' would include getting a release form from the Police Department (that may or may not include an administrative fee) and then paying the tow and storage fees to the tow company. Vehicles that are towed that need to be held for some reason are 'impounded'. This would include… [cont.]
