What is the minimum credit score required to receive an American Express Business card through a fortune 500?
Q. I am seeking a job with a fortune 500 company that requires the employee to obtain a company issued AMEX business credit card for extensive travel. The card is issued to the employee and therefore linked to their personal credit. The balance on the card is paid by the company after the employee submits an approved expense report. Presently, my median credit score is 655. Can I be approved for a company issued AMEX business credit card with this score and if not, what is the minimum score needed to obtain approval?

A. No one can definitely answer you other than American Express, but my guess would be that you would not qualify if the credit is being granted under your own merit. American Express has greatly scaled back on issuing AMEX business cards and has lowered credit limits on thousands of their customers. I recently saw on another forum where a man with an 830 FICO got an American Express card with only a $6000 spending limit. American Express not only looks at your FICO score, but your debt to income ratio when making credit decisions. If someone has a few credit cards even if they are not using them then they have the ability to charge and carry a balance. All of these things are taken into consideration when and if a person gets approved… [cont.]

What is the average credit limit on a business credit card? What information will I need to provide?
Q. I have $30,000 and think to get business credit card. What is the average credit limit on a business credit card? What information will I need to provide?
Asked by dakeen forx - Mon Jan 15 07:54:17 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First of all you can lend me like $800.00 and you'll be okay. But your credit limit depends on you credit. If you use American Express that darn Charge card, then you are going to get something like No credit limit which looks bad on your credit score. So You might wonna go with so mething that is around $20,000. If any thing goes wrong and you are suddenly out of work or you have to shut your business then you that that thirty that you are saving and stick it on the credit card balance. Remember you won't go over tweny. You will need to provide work history, SSN, and amount you have in savings. If you have a checking account then that will also be helpful.

A. Hi LRJ, If your going to try pitching to banks...i would suggest pitching to local banks in your community. They are more flexible with their terms and loan regulations because a lot of them are self underwritten loans. Remember to polish up your business plan and dress the part as well and of course the bank always want to know what is in it for them. Another alternative is to start an LLC or Incorporate yourself as a business...then apply to supply companies using your LLC or Inc name. They will start you off with some credit line to get your supplies. Also apply to department stores that carry office supplies and in between all of them you should come close to your goal. At first it is hard to start your business credit line but it… [cont.]

What are the chances of me getting a business credit card?
Q. Hi, I am about to start a small business and was wondering if I would be able to get a business credit card. Would a bank approve a credit card for a small business that does not have any credit history and if so what would the limit on the card be? My personal credit score is 720 and my business partners is around 690 if that makes a difference. Thanks

A. If you are running a business as a company then they will not give you a card based on your score. If your business has a bank account the bank may give you a credit card based on your balance and activity. You need to go to your bank first and sell them the idea of your business, have a business plan and some market research to show you have thought this through, then you might get lucky.

What do I categorize business credit card finance charges as?
Q. Are these finance charge on my business credit card tax deductible? Where should I file these charges?
Asked by NotScared2Ask - Sat Mar 20 20:30:48 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Credit card finance charges is interest charged for loaned money, so you can categorize it along with other interest payments, such as mortgage interest. In theory you could lump them together in the same ledger, but your accountant might prefer you keep the two separate, i.e., interest paid on short term loans from interest paid on long term loans, even though both are tax deducible. This is assuming that the credit card is being used for legitimate business expenses, of course.

A. Yes you can deduct interest on your business's credit card used only for business purposes. There is a line for "other interest". It was 16b last year.

Q. can I claim the annual business amount on my taxes by getting a business credit card?
Asked by John S - Wed Sep 26 07:57:54 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. annual business amount of what? If you have a credit card that you use for business expenses, then the business expenses are deductible as business expenses. You could also have a personal credit card that you use for business purposes as well, and the business expenses would still be deductible expenses.

getting a business credit card with poor credit?
Q. I have a poor credit but would like to apply business credit card for my working business. Where do I start? What are the options?
Asked by Nika H - Fri Jun 20 04:53:40 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is possible to apply for a business credit card even if you have a poor credit. You must expect then that your initial business credit limits are smaller, with a much higher interest rate. It is easier to build business credit when you have a good credit. I would suggest to fix your personal credit first by paying your bills on time. Check 3 major bureaus, write dispute letter if there is any mistakes about your record. Later on, if you always pay on time, they'll raise your credit limit and it is easier for you to apply for a business credit.

How Do I Find a Co-signer for a Business Credit Card?
Q. I'm starting up a self-employed business. I have a sound business plan which has been reviewed by 4 persons in the field. My startup expenses are to be $2,500 and monthly expenses $4,000. The bank advised me to simply get a business credit card instead of a loan (they don't do business loans under $100k anyway.) But my credit score is terrible so they said I need a "strong" co-signer. But I don't know anyone who can do this for me! Any ideas on where I can find someone or go?

A. if you don't already know someone, you're not likely to find anyone, at least under favorable (for you) terms a sound business plan should include financing it. i get the sense you hurried past that part.

Q. The company went out of business and the corporate credit card was not paid for 3 months. The bank took out the money from my personal checking account without informing me. Can they do this? Can they still do this even if they do not have proof that I am the gaurantor for this card? I asked the bank to give me a copy of the signed document and they do not have that.

A. If you consented to this in the terms and conditions of the corporate credit card they can. You should read the terms and conditions of your corporate card. At the end of the day, you should seek specialist legal advice if you still have concerns.

A. It would not be a good idea. Especially in this economy. Also, if you're not incorporated, you'd be personally liable anyway. Try not to purchase anything, or get it as inexpensively as possible, such as Craigslist.

Asked by EdC - Mon Mar 9 15:50:12 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Knowing how you have set-up your chart of accounts would be helpful. But here are some possibilities: If you are using classes to separate your business and personal expenses code the interest to an expense account, "Interest", and the business class. Without classes, you probably want to set-up an expense account, "Interest-business" and code the payment there, instead. This will keep your deductible interest separate from mortgage or persoanl interest and ease the preparation of your tax return. Either way, the interest would be reported on Schedule C, Interest expense.

How can I obtain a business credit card using only my TIN?
Q. Are there any credit card companies that provide credit to small businesses using only their TIN or EIN as opposed to my social Security number. And also, once I receive a number from Dun and Bradstreet do they create a create profile for me or how does that work exactly?
Asked by Philip - Thu Oct 2 13:02:04 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I am not aware of any cards which do not require the applicant's SSN. If you see that, it's a sure fire sign you are not getting business credit, but personal credit. I am only aware of Staples and Dell who offer credit based solely on the business TIN. You may want to get approved for those and, if appropriate, use them to establish business credit. Every credit card application I see requires the SSN on the applicant. You can bet this will be on your report as an inquiry.

A. Start with your business plan. Make it easy to understand and clearly diagrammed. Bankers and Loan Officers don't like start-ups as much as they use to. The SBA has no money to lend, they will direct you to a bank. Unless you have invented an orgasm pill, it's still going to be up to your personal credit score. You might as well look for a personal loan.
